Well if you scratch every living thing of a hill and make some almost, but not really, flat spots and you live in an area which gets 1200mm of rain annually then you have to expect a puddle or two.
Sure enough, today the flood gates opened, and what is to become my vegie patch is now a pond at the bottom of a muddy stream running from the top south corner to the bottom north corner of the block. Note to self: make sure the landscapers put a slope on the vegie patch! And to make matters worse, the water naturally runs down hill, into the neighbours. They were not impressed. Since they were flooded last year we were able to use their, somewhat rotten, sand bags to shore up the tide. We cleaned the leaves, that had been swept along with the stream, out of the drain and the crisis passed, although my mother and I were covered in mud. |
