First Egg! Print

Our chooks usually start laying in August and sure enough, Today I got an egg!

Our chooks are Pekin Bantams. They seem to be quite pointless apart from the pooh that they make. Theyare fussy eaters, so can't be used as composters as "proper chooks" are. They lay erratically and for not many years before the go into retirement for the rest of their long lives (baring foxes). Their eggs are very small; about 36g each.

So if you want some "proper chooks" that give eggs most of the year then see Mr Cooper or Abundant Layers but for lovely little garden gnomes that chook about the garden delightfully then try Pekins.
